Artist's Comments

I've discovered Gibson Girls while I was looking up different types of old hair styles. Unbeknown to me, this "Gibson Girl " hair style was the thing I was looking for. I read about how the Gibson Girl was created by illustrator Charles Dana Gibson. It's wonderful really, you all should take a look at Wikipedia or other informational sites and educate yourselves a little about artistic history.

The model is myself. I've been doing a lot of self portraits recently and I'm sorry if it seems selfish of me. For a long time I wouldn't do self portraits simply because I felt it was a sign of selfishness. However, I've been learning a lot about myself lately and well, I draw what I feel is beautiful, and sadly I have not thought of myself as beautiful for most of my life. Things have changed, and I've changed. And now I see what I've willingly neglected for too long. So now it's time to make up for it. I probably won't post all of my experiments with self portraits (wouldn't want to bore you) but I do have a urge to flaunt myself. It is as if you would look in the mirror and see something new, different, and beautiful. You would be amazed as I am. So please bear with me as I enter this stage. Thank you.

Nah, I don't think doing self-portraits is a selfish thing. What's a better subject to study for the human face if not yourself? I heard from somewhere once that there's our own face in every portrait we draw (even if it's of other people). I do love the Gibson Girls for how the artist still manages to capture feminity with such bold storkes. As a self portrait good job on this one. You really do look like a Gibson Girl to me. Though I have to add that the arm and hand are a bit small compared to the head. Otherwise, you got the Gibson Girl feel across.

Wow that is so awesome. I never realized you had the potential to be a gibson girl. I know about them. This illustrator sent of such a craze in the victorian era that real women craved to be gibson girls. They would go to great self mutilating lengths to do so. You don't even need to wear a corset! And duh! Of course you're beautiful. I've been trying to tell you that for two years now. So please, do more self portraits it wont get old!

I know that arm does look to small. However, that's what it looked like in the picture. I suppose it was foreshortened a bit. I should probably try to fix that though. Thanks.

Just finished the first week as well. It's pretty awesome this year. I got an apartment style dorm across the street from Monty so this year is looking more convienent than ever. But yes, it's probably going to get busy pretty quickly.
